Accountability: the buck stops somewhere

Low academic achievement, rising violence, privacy breaches, radical activism, revisionist history, speech restrictions, expensive legal entanglements. This is just a sampling of recent Board problems, yet no major changes have been made apart from firing Director Jeewan Chanicka.

Even this rare firing was not explained, which itself signals lack of accountability, to say nothing of the high costs of investigating and paying Chanicka for at least another year.

Too often the Board releases statements unsigned, refuses to deal with thorny issues, misleads the public, or incorrectly attributes responsibility to the Ministry of Education. This could be fixed if individuals faced consequences. Our kids deserve to be educated in a competent and accountable public institution.
